Many organisations have crisis plans for when things really go wrong.

But far fewer have actually tested how their board and executive team would respond under the pressure of a real crisis.

One of the great benefits of simulation exercises is that they reveal things that policies and plans rarely do:
• Unclear or absent escalation pathways
• Decision hesitancy and bottlenecks
• Governance blind spots and inadequacies
• Misalignment between directors and executives

A well-designed and run simulation event isn’t about “passing or failing”.

It’s about giving leadership teams a safe environment to test decision making and plans before a real crisis occurs.

Curious question for directors and executives here:

Has your board ever run a crisis simulation exercise?
