Governance is the new black… At least it should be!

For too long and too often governance has had the reputation of being a burden, a bolt on extra, a Non-Profit line item,. But I want to suggest otherwise and call out some of the positives, particularly with the AI wave driving so much energy and focus right now.

Here’s my 5 positives:
1. Governance Risk Management done right is meant to avoid the proverbial hitting the fan by identifying, reducing and managing risk exposure, and everyone wants that.
2. Governance is there to make sure the right people, do the right job, in the right way. Thus, covering your backside when things DO go wrong. With the explosion of AI, keeping humans in the loop is especially important now.
3. Governance policy, procedures and controls should actually result in a more sustainable, scalable and quality output.
4. Governance oversight and awareness should contribute towards the strategic input of senior leaders giving an edge in the marketplace.
5. Governance is ensuring compliance and regulation is met, in the global sandpit we’re playing in, mutual awareness and cooperation is important.

If the operations are the missile, then governance is part of the guidance system and ensures it stays on track and arrives at its target.

Hopefully these 5 points help you appreciate the value and necessity of governance in a positive light.
